This is an homage to the author's childhood NYC (1980 to 2005), especially downtown Manhattan where they're from. It's also a parody of friends, protest, and anti establishment art. The zine is part of a larger project consisting of crochet kink bears and future videos. They're aiming for the "no fucks given" counter culture vibe downtown used to have while weaving in bits of their own childhood, art, and neighborhood history.
This all started as a joke. They just wanted to make my LGBTQIA friends feel better about our dumpster fire world and started crocheting bears with kink clothing. As they made the bears the ideas kept evolving. The goal is to build Queer City, an immersive experience for the community and their allies. And they promised their hairdresser to make all his crochet kink dreams come true.
