- Description
A sapphic blackout poetry zine based on Pat Parker’s poem “Sunshine.”
For Pride month Justine wanted to create a special project. They asked people that identified as sapphic (lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, wlw, queer, etc.) to make a blackout poem out of “Sunshine,” a poem by the Black lesbian activist and poet, Pat Parker.
The poem illuminates Parker’s love for another woman, referring to a list of “things that make [her] heart jump.” Each blackout poem, in a way, reinterprets “Sunshine” and turns it into the thing that makes each contributor’s own heart jump. These poems contain so much yearning, sweetness, longing, fear, love, and all of the complex intense emotions that come with being a wlw.
This DIY zine is for all sapphic people but it is especially dedicated to sapphic people of color (poc) past and present.
This zine also features 2 activity pages where you can create your own blackout poem and write a list of things that make your heart jump,
