In 2017 Terence Hannum (Locrian, The Holy Circle, Axebreaker) began writing articles on horror soundtracks for the private monthly newsletter of the Horror Writers Association in a column titled DEAD AIR.
Volume Two, collects four articles originally published in 2018 focusing on the soundtracks for; CHRISTINE by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth, DEEP RED by Goblin, EXCESS FLESH by Jonathan Snipes and GET OUT by Michael Abel.
From CHRISTINE: "CHRISTINE stands in an era of timelessness. Not in a sense that it could be any time, or a film that transcends time, but one of no-time. Unable to recognize if it is stuck in the 1950s or the late 1970s and in many ways sits beside films like GREASE (1978) and AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1973) as a mirror world to some sort of idealized past. But entirely malevolent. King’s CHRISTINE may be a jumbled trap of his own making and admission, but Carpenter created something completely nihilistic with the source material. Alongside this bleak inversion of high school bullying, where the bullied becomes a murderer, is a relentless and tense synthesized score."
Terence Hannum is a Baltimore based visual artist, musician and writer. He has written the novellas BENEATH THE REMAINS, ALL INTERNAL, and THE FINAL DAYS as well as multiple short stories.
