That guy, Josh, he’s a busy guy. He runs a record label, he runs a zine distro, he writes novels, he teaches classes, he takes care of his sick dog … Like I said, busy. So he doesn’t always have the time or energy to write every single zine he thinks of. So this is the “Zines That Never Existed” issue, a zine about the zines he never wrote. As fellow zinester with too many ideas, I really loved this! I also have a backlog of zines I’ve never gotten around to, so it was fun to read Josh’s ideas, read about how they originated, then read about how the inspiration petered out.
Examples include: a zine about his personal library, a zine about his collection of cassette tapes, a zine about odd bits of Americana, and a zine where he interviews other zinemakers. Over the years he had actually interviewed various people, including me, but never got around to publishing those interviews. But in BPA #15 Josh prints small snippets of those long-lost interviews!
If you already know and love Josh, then this is a great chance to read his candid thoughts about his creative process. If you don’t know Josh, then this still a good zine, as it discusses concepts of inspiration and productivity.
