  • Description

Cut Me Up Issue 10: Reconnect, curated by Cut Me Up Magazine Editor and Founder Andrea Burgay, is a selection of 18 artworks that are direct responses to the psychological self-portraits of Cut Me Up Issue 9: Scars and All. This call for Issue 10 repeats the call for Cut Me Up Issue 1 — the original manifesto for the magazine.

In the explorations of connection included, there are artworks that incorporate the experiences that unify us all — joy, love, suffering and contemplation. There are reconfigured self-portraits where artists have found reflections of themselves in the self-portraits of others. And there are works that attempt to resolve gaps in connection, trying to make sense of the information at hand in order to connect, despite what might be missing.

Looking for connection — especially with that which we don’t fully understand — forces us to relate to and uncover our shared humanity. With these works, artists reconnect to each other, to themselves and to Cut Me Up, continuing our ongoing dialogue.

Curatorial prompts for Issue 10 artists: Connect. What resonates with you in the self-portraits in Cut Me Up Issue 9? How do you relate to what the artists are saying about themselves and their lives? Develop a rapport—aesthetically, conceptually or psychologically—and then respond.

Eligible submissions must incorporate some portion or portions of Cut Me Up: Issue 9.
