In Quarryville, PA, Memorial Day and demolition derby at The Buck is synonymous for the beginning of summer. Cars entering the fight come spray-painted with a theme: American Patriotism, southern pride, cancer awareness, and bad-luck symbolism. Onlookers fill the bleachers with a big box of fries and a large soda. Burning engine fumes linger as tires fling heaps of mud into the crowd, but that’s all part of the fun. The night is capped off with an intense fireworks show, but don’t sit too close, exploded shells will rain down and singe your clothes!
