| The art and history of one of the leading galleries in the 'Lowbrow' art movement.
Spawned from the legacies of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and Ken "Von Dutch" Howard, Lowbrow art has expanded from its post-World War II origins in automotive-related design and do-it-yourself marketing to encompass a swirling myopia of cast-offs from consumer capitalism. With Lowbrow's stock-in-trade monsters, skulls, beatniks, surfers, Tiki gods, pinup girls and more matriculating into the mainstream, the art's popularity and collectibility have never been greater.
Anchoring this success has been Copro/Nason Fine Art, one of the movement's leading publishers and curators. Founded in 1991, Copro/Nason has more recently transcended the limits of Lowbrow by incorporating gothic-inspired visions of fantasy, horror and surrealistic excess into an ambitious program mixing acknowledged masters like Robert Williams and Mark Ryden with newer talents such as Ron English, Lori Earley, Sas Christian and Audrey Kawasaki.
Jam-packed with over 450 photos and illustrations, including full-color reproductions of the gallery's 100 limited edition prints, Copro/Nason Fine Art: A Catalogue Raisonne documents these changes through summaries of 75 curated exhibitions, along with essays by Williams, Sandow Birk, Shag and others to embellish a storied history and ever-evolving stylistic profile. |
